Made of a limestone and quartzite composition stone. Various colours and patinas enliven a collection of fine ancient Egyptian art replicas.
This is the first time this wonderful Sphinx box has been featured here. After the recent clean up in my old studio, many pieces were found from past eras and this one off collection is included with the feature Sphinx box.
The Sphinx itself is a restored replica with the features and hieroglyphic name of King Thutmose III seen on his chest between the paws.
Thutmose III was the greatest king to have ever sat on the Egyptian throne in terms of extending the borders of the country to their greatest extent. This age of empire saw Egypt receive vast tributes from conquered lands and a cultural exchange ensued that enriched all surrounding countries.
The amulets in this collection include a small blue Ushabti figure, an aged ankh (cross of life), a Hathor amulet (in the form of a cow), Sphinxoid amulets with traditional and Greek versions of Sphinx representation, a couple of scarab beetles with inscriptions underneath and finally a Djed pillar of Osiris. The latter a symbol of strength, stability and balance.
The pyramid shows the sun god Ra with an adoring noble subject praising the god to invoke his favour.
