Available here is a highly detailed replica of an actual new kingdom heart scarab amulet.
Made of a limestone and quartzite composition stone it has an attractive aged earthy grey colouration. It has a light polish which highlights the details to great effect.
Heart scarabs usually have a spell inscribed underneath to help the deceased stand up to the rigours of passing into the next world safely and justified.
This example is a prime example of the heart scarab and if you look closely you will see the all important glyph of the pan scales which was the device your heart was weighed upon in the hall of judgement. The typical spell of the new kingdom could be written as follows :-
'The Osiris, (name of the individual) is justified, he says: “O my heart, which I had from my mother, the centre of my being. Do not stand against me as a witness, do not oppose me in the judgement hall, in the presence of the keeper of the balance. You are my ka (spirit) in my body, the creator [who makes my limbs prosper.
