On offer here is a very fine Egyptian ushabti replica with fine details and body form. The original figure dates from the 26th dynasty during the reign of Psamtik, a time when ushabti figures were made to a very high standard.

Groupings of these figures always makes a fantastic impact which provokes questions of style and change over the course of Egyptian history. Combined shipping is therefore available if you would like to add other examples in the range to give him company.

Made of a limestone and quartzite composition stone it is mounted on a polished felt lined stand.

It has an aged patina with aqua green and blue the dominant colours.

This is a replica of an actual Shabti that reproduce every detail of the original figure. He clutches farming implements to till the soil that would have been put to good use in the afterlife as well as a bag of seeds for planting thrown over the shoulder. The segments of a seed bag hanging off the shoulder can be seen in the rear view photograph.

Historical background :-

The name stems from the Sha-wab tree, as early figures were made from its wood. Later figures employed a great variety of materials such as clay, faience{opaque blue green glass} plaster and stone depending on what you could afford. These figures were placed within the tomb of an individual to magically come to life performing any work required by the god Osiris in the afterlife. A modest burial would have one or two figures, however during the late period the quantities included within a burial increased to allow a shabti for each day of the year plus overseers. Some burials had even more
