Available here is a very rare Amarna period replica relief. Pitted and aged from windblown sand and perhaps even water damage, the original piece has had quite a journey. This piece is one of the most realistic replicas that reproduces every remnant detail and will likely generate a response for the uninitiated, "is it real?"

So important are the earliest carvings from this revolutionary period for the art style was in a constant and vital stage of development.

This relief is a stela that features the young family in adoration of the sun god Aten. Offerings are made in the forms of lotus flowers held towards the sun for the rays to absorb. The Nile lily / lotus flower was the most alluring of fragrances that existed in the Nile valley.

The king, Akhenaten is shown as the tallest figure, followed by Queen Nefertiti wearing a Khat headdress instead of her more familiar tall blue crown. That would come later.

The smallest figure is the princess Meritaten, the first born of 6 daughters and who herself would one day be Queen although only briefly.

This fragment is like a snapshot in time of an only child being inducted into royal life duties.
