* Included is a replica collector card featuring the inspirational Roman building - The Pantheon. Unfortunately I don't have one of the Kazneh Treasury but it is roughly contemporaneous and a worthy accompaniment to contemplate the evolution of temple architecture in the ancient world.
This amulet is made of a limestone and quartzite composition stone with an aged patina.
It features the unmistakable facade of the Kazneh in Petra Jordan. It is also known as 'The Treasury' as a myth formed in later times that it was thought to house the lost treasures of ancient Egypt. The facade itself does reference Egypt in some of its intricate designs but it is a mixture of styles including Roman and Greek. The remains of a head of Medusa for example can be seen metres away from the horns of Isis.
Not so in this miniature piece however as this scaled down version offers only an impression of this most stately building of the Nabatean empire.
It is in the land of Jordan that you will find the remains of this fantastic rose coloured city that was carved out of and into the living rock of this remote region. The Nabateans' began carving this city at some time during the 6th century B.C.E and was located on a major trade route that preserved its importance for hundreds of years.
