On offer here is a collection of objects focused on the subject of the mythical Centaur Of ancient Greek mythology. The Centaur is one of the most strange, if somewhat elegant of the figures composed in ancient times. They had the head, arms and torso of a man but the legs and lower half of a horse. They lived in Thessaly, fed on meat and were prone to riotous behaviour as can be seen in the incredibly detailed relief scene included here - 'The battle of the Centaurs'.
They were often depicted as drunken followers of Dionysis with one exceptional Centaur known as the wise Chiron. He was a tutor / personal trainer to several heroes including Achilles.

The amulet on offer shows a Centaur wrestling a serpent and the figure has fine muscle tone. Made of a limestone and quartzite composition stone, these pieces have ancient colour tones giving them a freshly excavated look.

Included with in the set is are a pair of replica collector cards from the early 1900's that captures the ambience of the Centaur in action.
