This is an unusual depiction of Osiris, the Egyptian god of the underworld / afterlife. Osiris wears an atef crown which is made of tall ostrich plumes and rams horns with a small disc of the sun in the middle at the base. The unusual aspect of this carving is the long wig that is worn instead of the tall white cone shaped crown that is the most widely known. The white crown worn by Osiris may also have ostrich plumes attached to either side of the crown but can be shown without these in paintings and sculpture.
He is positioned in a crouched pose enveloped in the white shroud of his mummified form and he clutches an ankh in his hand thus offering the viewer the possibility of life with him in the next world. His features are painted in Egyptian green which is the symbol of fertility and abundance. Egypt was largely an agricultural society and it is not surprising that a god of crops and vegetation would rise to such a significant role as master of the elysian fields.
