This impression replica has a bold linear pattern of leaping ibex that is clear and vibrant.
The proto-Elamite period was a time when cuneiform writing was still in it's infancy, but seals of elaborate designs were made featuring animals, vegetation and human forms.
A carved cylinder seal was rolled onto moist clay that had been moulded onto a tied leather or string thread. These threads were attached to documents, wine jars, caskets or anything that required authentication, security or privacy. This rolling of the seal was a way to repeatedly and stylishly leave your mark in the ancient world of trade, commerce and communication.
Most impressions that have been preserved are rarely reunited with their lost seal which may still be out there in the sands awaiting discovery.
