This statue features the well known god Anubis or 'Anpu' in ancient Egyptian dialect. Anubis was the God of mummification and he would lead your soul into the hall of judgement and tend the scales of justice in the company of Osiris, Maat, Thoth and Ammut the devourer of wicked souls.
This is a reissue of my original 1993 sculpture as all the examples that I can make available from last century are now all sold. It is so good to have him back after an absence of over ten years and he still seems to retain a certain cheeky defiance in his face. Enhanced with a well developed aged black colouration, this particular example will make a nice addition to an existing collection.
This piece is made of Temstone which is a quartzite and limestone composition stone used for fine museum reproductions and the statue is mounted on a polished felt based stand.
*The Anubis statue was one of those turning point sculptures from my early twenties that pushed me forward to make more complex forms. I have always liked Anubis as there is something very fascinating and alluring about the slender jackal form, especially in profile.
