On offer here for the first time is a fine replica set featuring some iconic images from the ancient Harappan culture of the Indus valley.
Made of a limestone and quartzite composition stone, they have aged patinas. The figure has been carefully mounted upon a removable felt based stand and she needs to be spun just right to stand straight and upright as featured in the photos. An ancient diva perhaps.

The figure is one of several discovered in the mysterious city of Mohenjo Daro and is likely a goddess or fertility deity. A common theme for many emerging ancient cultures, this figure is a particularly fine and elegant example. Three floral emblems are worn as part of a an elaborate headdress and rows of necklaces and a choker are prominent.
Large ear adornments are also an worn.
Her arms are short and outstreched and the legs are rendered simply and closed. Carved lines indicate the thigh region and the back view reveals sensitive modelling of the body with subtle lines indicating the buttocks.

The seal impressions
The large seal impression features the undeciphered script used in the Indus valley with a deity in what looks like a seated yoga position.
Understanding the meaning of the seal remains speculative but the culture that made it has left enough evidence to show they embraced a male and female deity long before the emergence of the Vedas which are the oldest Hindu writings that evolved in the region.
The imagery hints at an influence on early Hinduism.

Bathing was an action shown in some representations suggesting ritual importance and the well known seals of wild animals and plants are also a major part of the iconography of the Indus valley seals.

Two of the animal seals are included in this set as well as a rare seal of an abstract reed boat design. Each of these with yet more glyphs from the mysterious Indus valley script.
Perhaps the day is coming soon for decipherment as many lost ancient languages awaken from slumber with new techniques of study and further archaeological discoveries pushing the possibility of such an enigmatic revelation.
