On offer here for the very first time are a few interesting artworks depicting the Greek God Hermes, also known as Mercury in Roman mythology.
The mounted fragment shows the God wearing his signature winged helmet facing the upper portion of his sacred staff - the Caduceus.
The smaller amulet shows Hermes in action wearing a cape with the presence of tiny wings on his feet as well as on the helmet. The other amulet features Hermes in his most iconic pose without a cape and in full flight to imbue speed.
Background information - Hermes was the physical embodiment of what we know today as the planet Mercury which the ancient astronomers noted had the fastest transition in a yearly cycle of celestial observations.
Hermes was known as the winged messenger, capable of lightning speed, running with wings on his feet and an aerodynamic helmut with wings also. Swift as a bird.
As the planets were considered to be important Gods it was decided by the ancient priests and astronomers that the fastest planet should be dedicated and worshipped as Hermes / Mercury.
