Human headed Scarab

The largest in this set is one of the rarest forms of scarab and includes a human head placed where the scarab head usually is. Representing the ancient owner it seamlessly blends in with the thorax and main body. It is a more personalised way to ensure the ancient soul is reborn in the afterlife. Stylistically this example appears to be late 18th to early 19th dynasty.
Unique, hand carved hieroglyphs feature on the largest two and superb casing details are present on the smallest.
Made of a limestone and quartzite composition stone they have a range of blue / green and ochre patinas with had painted details on the large example.
