This mounted sculpture fragment is a sensuous example of the Greek goddess of the hunt, Artemis. Artemis, also known as Diana in Roman mythology comes alive in this fine replica statue. She has an aged patina which gives her the look and feel of antiquity. Made of a limestone and quartzite composition stone the artwork is presented on a polished felt based stand.

Many photos were taken for her debut here, including an afternoon sunsetnshoot to show the effects of various lighting. She was a very cooperative model.

Included with the statue is an amulet also featuring the goddess in the company of eros / cupid. In addition an atmospheric collector card also featuring the temple of Artemis is included to add an extra point of interest to your display.

Background information

Artemis was associated with the moon, but woodlands and in particular groves of oak trees were her domain. She could be depicted in paintings, statuary and reliefs with bow and arrows, a distinctive head band and a hound by her side. She was the daughter of Jupiter and the twin sister of her brother Apollo and both were born on the Island of Delos.

As mentioned she was also known as Diana in the Roman era and in a cult sense she was worshipped in her own right or part of a triad. The other deities in this triad were the water nymph Egeria who served Diana and was also known as a midwife, and Virlius the woodland god.
