On offer here is an early Sumerian / Akkadian cylinder seal replica set which includes an impression of the details the cylinder contains.
The preparation for harvesting a successful date crop is represented here. The figure holding a frond of the date palm is a vegetation deity most likely Enlil who leads a male devotee by the hand while another female devotee carries a bag that would hold the pollen for manual polenation.
Enlil invented the mattock or hoe and cared for crops. His daughter Nisaba, also known as Nina was a goddess associated with crops, grain, dates and all manner of vegetation.
The god is appealing on behalf of the mortal worshipers to Ishtar for a successful and bountiful crop as she was the supreme goddess of fertility.
A mace can be seen at the feet of the seated goddess and a prominent star directly in front of her is the celestial symbol of Ishtar.
Made of a limestone and quartzite composition stone.
