Ramses the Great

Dimensions -
Height - 34.5 cm / 13-1/2 inches
Width - 27.5 cm / 10-3/4 inches

Available here is a highly detailed painted relief featuring Ramses the Great of the 19th dynasty.
Made of a limestone and quartzite composition stone it has a well developed aged patina and a profusion of unique hand painted details. It has a sturdy wire loop on the back for a wall display option.
This is a signed 2024 edition of the master original that was first carved over 20 years ago.

It was the father of Ramses, Seti the first who provided the inspiration of pose for this piece however the cartouche clearly shows the names of Ramses II. His Horus and throne name are encircled in cartouches.

In one of the photographs, the Ramses carving is accompanied by a fragment featuring Nefertari. This piece is not included for sale here but merely to show the full concept. Nefertari will be made available in another listing with greater detail shown.

Nefertari was the principal wife of Ramses and I had carved her image prior to that of the King. On seeing Nefertari, a customer requested an image of the King to face the Queen so I laboured over something that would look suitable and at the same size.
I settled on an offering scene that shows the king holding a stylized basket / platter of high quality food and flowers. Figs, cuts of meat, pomegranate, grapes and lotus flowers made for an appealing and traditional choice. He wears the Nemes - the striped headdress, a broad collar and a pleated shendyt kilt.
The hand painted details along with the contours of the body and limbs make for a beautiful example of Egyptian relief.
