On offer here is a rare replica representation of the key deities of worship in the Nubian / Kushite kingdoms that flourished directly south of ancient Egypt.
From left to right the deities are Apedemak, Amun and Amesami.
Amun was the principal deity in the Egyptian kingdom during the New Kingdom which was the period of greatest cultural influence that ancient Egypt experienced. This cultural exchange certainly flowed into the southern nation of Kush and the worship of Amun became entrenched into the culture long after Egyptian authority retracted.
The 25th Egyptian dynasty was a 90 year period where the Kushites conquered a weak Egypt and embraced the culture rather than destroy it.

The artistic style of Egypt thus lived on in the Kushite cultures and evolved into a unique artistic expression. Pyramids were built, long after Egypt stopped this practice. They were very steep versions on a smaller scale to the monolths of Giza, Saqqara and Meidum but were well made and numerous. Temples and tombs were also built in the Egyptian style and retained the essential Egyptian iconography blending with local nuances.

Second only to the god Amun was the warrior deity Apedemak who could be shown as a lion or a man with the lion’s head. Both the animal and anthropomorphic forms wore the elaborate crown of Kush. A combination of reed and feather elements with royal cobra insignia.
