The healing Goddess Gula. Available for the very first time my latest cylinder seal creation with an impression of the design it creates.
As a deity, Gula and her representative dog had abilities associated with powerful healing and in extreme cases bringing the very dead back to life.
This is a Neo-Assyrian period design that also features a worshipper interacting with the dog and an ibex can be seen standing on two legs feeding on a bountiful desert tree.
The crescent moon appears above the dog and a constellation of stars can be seen behind the goddess. Gula is associated with the goat constellation.
The seal itself is drilled through the centre and could be worn as a necklace as in ancient times.
Carving in reverse (negative) is a challenging process and they are one of the most informative and charming relics to have survived from the ancient world.
