On offer here is a finely painted relief carving of the beloved wife of Ramses the Great - Nefertari. Made of a limestone and quartzite composition stone it has an aged patina and a carefully placed wire loop on the back to allow for a wall feature display option. With many unique hand painted details. It is a signed 2022 edition based on my original 1995 master carving.
She can be displayed to great effect with lighting using a simple desk lamp or down light.
Background information.
Nefertari - not to be confused with Nefertiti, was the great royal wife of Ramses the Great and was much loved by her Pharaoh. 'Nefer' , the first part of her name, is an individual word that translates into that which is good and/or beautiful.
In one of the photographs, the Nefertari carving is accompanied by a fragment featuring Ramses. This piece is not included for sale here but merely to show the full concept. Ramses will be made available in another listing with greater detail shown.
Never had a Queen been portrayed in such an abundance of sculptural and painterly works as Nefertari. During Egypts' powerful New Kingdom, Nefertari reigned with Ramses over an empire that had brought an ever increasing cultural exchange that vastly influenced the fashions worn in life.
Nefertari as portrayed in this carving wears one of the most opulent garments Egypt had yet seen adorn a reigning Queen. This pleated fashion really took off during the reign of Amenhotep the third and the following Amarna period but it reached a peak during the 19th dynasty. A sash trails down from the waist that kept the dress neatly closed.
