This is a fine replica of an actual Shabti that reproduces every detail of the original figure. It clutches two farming implements that would have been put to good use in the afterlife as well as a bag of seeds for planting thrown over the shoulder. You can just make out the segments of the seed bag looking at the back view photograph hanging off the left shoulder held in place by a rope in his left hand. He has one of the more unusual faces created during this dynasty which was an era renowned for the fine sculptural detail frequently employed in the artworks.
Made of a limestone and quartzite composition stone it has been given an aged ochre patina with black slate highlights and is mounted on a felt based stand.
Historical background :-
The name stems from the Sha-wab tree, as early figures were made from its wood. Later figures employed a great variety of materials such as clay, faience{opaque blue green glass} plaster and stone depending on what you could afford. These figures were placed within the tomb of an individual to magically come to life performing any work required by the god Osiris in the afterlife. A modest burial would have one or two figures, however during the late period the quantities included within a burial increased to allow a shabti for each day of the year plus overseers. Some burials had even more.
