On offer here is a painted Nefertiti fragment that has been carefully mounted on a removable felt based stand.
This actual piece shows subtle flesh tones, soft reds, yellow ochre, papyrus green, black, white and blue. Almost the full ancient Egyptian colour palette in one fragment.
She wears a Nubian style wig that was popular at the time over which encircles a royal diadem complete with rearing protective cobra on the brow. A hint of her pleated white garment can be seen on the bottom right of the fragment.
Famous for her beauty and influential role in the Amarna period, her many known representations show her wearing a variety of different head gear. The unique tall blue crown best known from her iconic bust found in the ruined workshop of the sculptor Thutmose was worn for official duties while the wig and diadem for more relaxed affairs.
Made of a limestone and quartzite composition stone, she has been mounted on an easily removable felt based stand which provides an excellent support.
It is a sunken relief so will benefit from good overhead lighting that will highlight the details. I have used a simple desk lamp in these photos to bring out the cheekbones.
