This scarab has fine lines on the outer wing casing and a highly decorative selection of important hieroglyphs arranged in a traditional format underneath.
At each end of the hieroglyphic grouping are the protective eyes of Horus.
In the very center is a djed pillar of Osiris, a symbol of strength and balance.
Flanking the djed pillars are two nefer symbols that are a reference to beauty or ‘that which is good’
Floating above the Djed is the hieroglyph ‘Nub’ which symbolizes gold, the flesh of the gods.
Human headed Scarab

One of the rarest forms of scarab include a human head placed where the scarab head usually is . Representing the ancient owner it seamlessly blends in with the thorax and main body. It is a more personalised way to ensure the ancient soul is reborn in the afterlife. Stylistically this example appears to be late 18th to early 19th dynasty.

This small scarab has a symmetrical form and smooth modelling to define the head, thorax and wing casing.
Underneath is an unusual depiction of an Ankh with upturned Nefer symbols.
