On offer here are a pair of cuneiform tablets from two different regions of Mesopotamia. The larger of the two replicas from the archives of Ugarit, features the fascinating Ugaritic cuneiform abecedary which is one of the earliest forms of an alphabet known.
The complexity and number of cuneiform symbols in use throughout Mesopotamia and surrounding environs was substantial but here we find the first north and south Semitic distillation of phonetic sounds to be given an order. With a limit of 30 characters it is the ancestor of our own modern alphabet via Phoenician and later Greek revisions.
The other small amulet has an older Sumerian inscription - 'New moon, Dark moon'. A talisman of celestial significance.
These exclusive offerings are made of a limestone and quartzite composition stone which have been given aged patinas.
