On offer here for the very first time is an exclusive tablet replica featuring a rare example of Sumerian mathematics that were in use over 4000 years ago.
The cuneiform writing and linear content are notations for the calculation of the surface area of residential land in the city of ancient Umma.
More than 30,000 tablets have been discovered at the site and most of them are administrative records or votive prayers. A special few are revealing in terms of the mathematical minds underscoring the development of the early cities and this tablet certainly belongs in this category.
Made of a limestone and quartzite composition stone it has a combination patina similar to the original tablet housed in the Louvre museum.
