Background information
The 'master or mistress of the animals' was a frequent theme used in cylinder seal engravings with particular notable examples from the early 3rd Sumerian dynasty. (Third millenium B.C.E)
In this example the hero of the scene holds a bull in each hand in the centre. To the left the 'bull man' seen in profile fights a rampant lion while on the far right, this time a full faced bull man fights two lions. A small ibex can be seen leaning against the right lion.
