On offer here is a replica of a Roman military document of a type that was issued to a member of the legion on his retirement - usually after 25 years of service. Dating from 107 A.D during the reign of Trajan.
The holes punctured in the mid section were made to allow it to be displayed in a public setting. Ancient advertising of one's credentials in life and with the prospect of eternity.
Made of a limestone and quartzite composition stone, it has an aged green patina.
* Included with the tablet is a replica collector card of early 20th century design that features various pennants and standards of the Roman legions.
