Made of a limestone and quartzite composition stone the pyramid features hand painted details while the sphinx has an aged slate black / grey colour. A great display combination.
On offer here is a small pyramid with fine hieroglyphic details of Egyptian iconography depicted on the four sides. In addition a small sphinx statue combines for a decorative pair.
The pyramid features the design of a lotus flower, a representation of the goddess Maat, the cartouche of Thutmose III, and a tyet knot that was sacred to the goddess Isis. This is a decorative piece that displays some of my more miniature carvings.
The Sphinx is a petite ancient replica of a third intermediate period type with the features of one of the Sheshonq kings. (Also known as Shishak) Most probable identity is Sheshonq IV dating to approximately 786-773 B.C.E.
This assumption is based on the revived 18th dynasty Thutmoside style that was in vogue during this period but peculiar to this phase is the even more youthful, child like faces on the surviving statues.
. The Egyptian royal Sphinx is composed of a lions body with the head of the reigning monarch and this example has the faint trace of an epithet of Shesonq between the paws. A very fine sculpture..
