Here is a special piece made available here in a realistic format mounted on a custom made felt based stand. It is a replica of a famous statue fragment of Queen Tiye that was found in the Sinai desert at Serabit el Khadim. It is the same size as the original and preserves much of the details that you can see on the fragment that is housed in the Cairo museum. Made of Temstone which is limestone and quartzite composition stone used for fine museum replicas.
She wears the remnants of a tripartite wig with Nubian style plaited locks and on her brow the double uraues. A head band features the cartouche of the Queen with protective winged cobras visible with long buckled tales trailing decoratively.
Not the most conventional beauty, Queen Tiy was often shown as in this piece with down turned lips and a worldly wize expression. Her rounded face suggests a more youthful Queen as later images depict a Queen with deep facial lines and hooded almond shaped eyes.
One of the most famous of Egyptian Queens she sat on the throne at the peak of Egyptian power and cultural expansion at the side of Amenhotep the third. Mother of Akhenaton and Grandmother of King Tutankhamun she was said to be a very forceful woman.
